




Swimming Lessons – Stage 1
Criteria for acceptance into stage 1
Children must be of school age and attending school foundation stage to be eligible to take part in this class.
Class size – Maximum of 6 and teacher in the water with them.
Stage 1 objectives
In Stage 1 of the ASA Learn to Swim Framework your child will develop basic movement skills, water confidence and safety awareness. Swimmers will be able to use aids such as floats to help complete this stage. In order to pass this stage and move onto the next stage you child will have to be able to demonstrate that they can do the following consistently:
- To gain water confidence
- To move around in the water
- To move into a stretched floating position using aids
- To learn how to push and glide
- To fully submerge
